I am not particularly fond of rules. Something about them rubs me the wrong way. A few years back, I was in Group 5 to get on the plane at an airport. I noticed that groups 1-4 went through a roped off row about six feet in length to gain entrance to the plane. The carpet wasn’t red. No server with a silver tray laden with champagne flutes filled with Dom Perignon and little crackers topped with Beluga caviar waited for them.
Why does this group go through this line, and the rest of the peasants, including myself, go through a different cordoned off area? I would have nothing to do with this gentrification of a simple line. When they called for Group 5, I got in the “elite” line. No alarms sounded. Security did not escort me to the proper line. Airline employees did not take away my peanuts and pretzels. Is the rule really needed?
Another one that bothers me is the reduced speed limit in school zones while children are present. Wait a minute! I’m not saying speed like a maniac through the zone like the next iteration of a Mario Kart character. What I am saying is that if a person truly needs a law to tell them to be careful while driving through a school zone, or any other zone for that matter, then the elevator may not be going all the way to the top floor.
This may seem a little harsh, but I would not agree with that sentiment. Only a narcissist or a selfish person would put their own desires above the safety of others. I don’t like rules, but unfortunately, some people cannot go through life without them in place. Otherwise they would be running around like an unchecked bulldozer, knocking down whatever got in their way without regard to the consequences. I wonder if they would feel the same if another person put themselves over others and ran over them in a crosswalk.
I only need to live my life according to the Golden Rule. Treat others as you would want to be treated. I do not want people running over me in a crosswalk. I do not want people speeding through a school zone. I do not want to take the arbitrary peasant line at the airport gate.
Take care.
